Vishay has squeezed point-of-load buck regulators into a 10.6 x 6.5 x 3mm package, including one that accepts inputs across 4.5 to 60V and can deliver 6A continuous at voltages down to 800mV. Another has a 25A output. Lcd Panel Module

Internal synchronous rectification allows efficiency, in one model, to be as high as 97%.

“The regulator modules each offer two high performance mosfets, an inductor and a controller, with only minimal external components needed for configuration and loop compensation,” according to distributor New Yorker Electronics, which is stocking the parts. “In data centres, telecom infrastructure and industrial applications [the regulators deliver] power to FPGAs, ASICs and SoCs.”

“In power-saving mode, when the inductor current crosses zero, the control scheme turns off the low side mosfet to deploy a diode emulation mode,” said New Yorker. “The switching frequency decreases in proportion to load conditions. There is no minimum switching frequency limitation, allowing for the best possible efficiency at light loads.”

Architecture is constant on-time for good transient response with minimum output capacitance, and tight ripple regulation at light loads.

It also enables loop stability regardless of the type of output capacitor used, including low ESR ceramic capacitors.

Protections include output over-voltage, under-voltage, cycle-by-cycle over-current, short-circuit (with auto-re-try) and over-temperature , and there is a power good flag.
